After you have added the course, you will need to add the Grading Scale to the course. Grading Scales are used in conjunction with the Gradebook so it is critical the Grading Scales are correct. They should also reflect the institution’s Grading Scale as outlined in the Course Catalog. VIAS keeps a history of all grading scales used for each course. If the grading scale changes, you need to expire the current one and then add a new grading scale with a new effective date.
1. Go to the Academics Tab > click on Courses.
2. Select the Course you need to add the Grading Scale to.
3. Scroll down to the “Grading Scale” section and click on the blue Create Grading Scale.
4. Select the Start, which is when the Grading Scale will be effective. This is the same Start as when the class will be offered at the institution. Leave End Date blank.
5. You can select one of the blue scales at the bottom of the box, or you can manually create one.
6. To manually create the Grading Scale, click Add Row.
7. Enter the Low and High Values for each Grade.
The values within the grading scale must be whole numbers. The values cannot contain decimals.
