Restart Students

A Restart Student is defined as a student that attempted or earned credit at the institution, withdrew from the institution, and is returning. There is not a Restart Program Action in VIAS for students.

Restart students are displayed by entering an Admit Program Action for the student. You need to create a new program plan for the student that will reflect the courses the student has already completed.

  1. Click on the Magnifying Glass Icon on the Top Right of the screen to search for the student. 
  2. Once on the Student Page, click on Manage Program Activity under the Program Plan Section of the Student Page. This will take you to the Program Plan Page, where Program Actions and Program Plans are managed.

  3. Next, click on Add Plan to create a new Program Plan that reflects the courses the student has already completed in the program they are returning to finish.
  4. Select the following information for the Program Plan and click Save
    1.  School 

    2. Program (select the Program the student is planning to return to complete) 
    3. Start Date (select the Start Date the student plans to return) 
    4. Curriculum Effective Date (select the most recent date) 
    5. Description (enter a name for the Program Plan, i.e. MTH August 2020 Restart)

5.    You will now need to select the Program Plan Template from the drop-down menu.

6.    You can now manually drag and drop classes and make adjustments to the Program Plan as needed. Sometimes you may need to make adjustments for classes that require a pre-requisite or to even out the number of credit hours in each term. Once you are finished with all of the adjustments, scroll to the bottom of the page, and click the blue Save Changes. You can print the Program Plan to give to the student or email them a copy. This is a tentative track for the remainder of their time at the institution and can change due to class or teacher availability. 

7.    Next, you need to admit the student into the school and select the program plan you just created. Click on Add Program Actions.

8.    Select the new program the student is beginning and then select Admitted. Next, make selections for each of the fields: 

    1. Select the term that the student will begin the new program. 
    2. The Effective Date is the first day of the new term. 
    3. Select Readmit for Admissions Type 
    4. Select the Program Plan for the new program. 
    5. Select Time Plan
    6. Click Save.

The student has now been admitted and the program action will display on the Student Page.

Students are not counted in the Active Population until they are admitted into a program.
